When you buy a new appliance give yourself a go at reading the instructions in English. It will enable you to learn new set of vocabulary that may come in handy during everyday conversation or when you will need to go to the service point abroad and describe a problem with your machine. Of course, in order to be safe and not hurt yourself, compare the English instructions with the ones in your mother tongue.
